Each year, usually in the month of October, the Mastocytosis Society (TMS) holds an annual conference in a different area of the United States.
The experience of attending one of these conferences — getting to spend a few days with people who face the same challenges you do, getting to listen to experts in the medical field discuss the latest research and understanding of mast cell diseases, getting to walk a mile in support of a great cause — is quite wonderful. Both family and friends are welcome. Separate break-out sessions are held for caregivers and patients.
Planning for our annual conferences is very complicated, since we want to make sure that our members are comfortable, that the hotel creates as safe and non-toxic an environment as possible, and that arrangements are made in case anyone needs to get to a nearby hospital.
TMS also offers a few scholarships for those who would like to attend but need some financial assistance to do so.
