Critical Therapeutics Awards TMS $4,000 AGAIN!
July 5, 2006
- By Valerie Slee, Co-Chair, Board of Directors
For the past few years, Critical Therpeutics, maker of Zileuton (Zyflo) have given us an unspecified educational grant to help us with our initiatives on behalf of members. Rick Finnegan from Critical Therapeutics told us it wold be renewable on a yearly basis, pending our application and available funds. We submitted a request for the grant again in April, and Leila Jalinous from Critical Therapeutics informed us that they are again rewarding us with a $4000.00 grant! Because we had been advised that the grant would be renewed yearly, we did include it in our budgetary planning, so we are delighted to receive it. The paperwork has been started, and we should receive the grant money soon. We appreciate the wonderful support that Rick, Leila, all the others at Critical Therapeutics offer TMS!
In addition, in April, Jim Boyle did some legwork on behalf of TMS, and made a good contact at Dey Pharmaceuticals, the makers of Epi-pen. They offer grants for very specific reasons, which they provided in their guidelines. With Jim's help, I drafted a grant proposal to Dey to help us with specific costs that they might be willing to help with that are associated with the annual meeting, and submitted it. Having never written a formal grant proposal, I really needed his input! We have just been notified by Lauren Dominic, Dey Pharmaceuticals, that we have been awarded a $5000.00 grant to help with very specific meeting expenses, which include audiovisual costs, food for patients and caregivers, anual meeting publications, recognition for the MAB, and costs associated with board of directors and committee chairs attending the meeting. In addition, although Dey normally disburses the money in December, when I told them the annual meeting was in October, and we needed the funds prior to the meeting, they agreed to give us a check in early now! This will help assure that we can again have a terrific meeting, and that we are achieving out goal of making it entirely self-supporting by use of meeting attendance fees and grant money.
We are ever grateful to both everyone at Critical Therapeutics, especially Rick Finnegan and Leila Jalinous, and Dey Pharmaceuticals, especially Lauren Dominick, for the wonderful support they are giving TMS and its members. We will all benefit from these wonderful grant monies!
