The Mastocytosis Society Partners with American Medical ID
By Len Levenda, Special Projects Chair
(April 4, 2008) It is with great pleasure that we announce a partnership between American Medical ID and The Mastocytosis Society. At the Annual Conference in Houston, Texas, American Medical ID was generous in supplying attendees with free USB flash drives on which to store their medical records. These flash drives can be attached to a key chain or carried in a purse or pocket.
American Medical ID is a company that sells ID bracelets with emergency information about the patient’s conditions to advise EMTs, first responders, and hospital personnel of any life-threatening conditions when patients cannot speak for themselves. It is reported that more than 95 percent of emergency responders look for a medical ID upon assessing a patient. Undoubtedly, having one of these bracelets or the other jewelry American Medical ID provides can be a life saver, and American Medical ID has gone not one but two steps further.
This Houston, Texas-based company also has created a special Web page that TMS members can use to order their bracelets and the new medical history flash drive. TMS members who use this link will not only receive a 10 percent discount for themselves, but American Medical ID will donate another 10 percent to TMS! To access this Web page, click on the American Medical ID logo or links on this page, or copy and paste this URL into your browser: http://www.americanmedical-id.com/extras/mastocytosissociety.php
In addition to the USB flash drive that can be connected to any computer to retrieve important information that won’t fit on an ID bracelet, American Medical ID has phone staff who can be called and offers storage on their company computers, which emergency personnel can access if the USB flash drive is not on your person. I cannot stress enough the importance of having up-to-date information at one’s fingertips when a medical emergency arises, and I am happy to announce the partnership between American Medical ID and TMS.
With preventable medication errors injuring at least 1.5 million Americans annually, the need for medical IDs is critical. American Medical ID, recommends that anyone living with chronic or rare medical conditions, persons with allergies, and those taking multiple medications or blood thinners should wear a medical ID.
Each person’s medical history is unique and the best protection is to always wear a properly engraved medical ID accurately conveying one’s medical needs.
In an emergency, a medical ID may be the only voice to share life-saving information with medical professionals. In a recent American Medical ID survey, 95 percent of emergency responders said they look for a medical ID. The survey also showed the impact of medical IDs — ensuring proper care, saving time and saving lives.
